Hi there Team Callaghan!
I hope you’re all enjoying a good week wherever you may be in the world. I want to say a HUGE thank you to all of you for supporting my plan to record Volume 2 of Acoustic Coffee House.
I can’t believe after only a couple of weeks we’re already at 64% of my goal. It’s absolutely amazing and I can’t thank you enough for your generosity.
Your support means I have now been able to book the studio in Nashville which is the same one I used for the original Coffee House CD. I’m really excited about getting back in there because it’s a brilliant studio and is perfectly set up for us to be able to record the live session for the new album.
I’m going to be joined by some amazing musicians, who you might already be familiar with from my live shows. The wonderful Dan Snyder will be playing keys, Vanessa Olivarez will be adding her lovely harmonies to the songs and Mike Gallagher will be flying in from Chicago to work his magic on guitar.
To give you a sneak peek into the track listing, I thought I’d reveal a few of the studio covers that will be appearing on the CD. As a singer-songwriter I always put a lot of thought into any time I sing a song I haven’t written. I have to have a strong emotional connection to it and be able to arrange it into my own version.
So I have chosen:
Fire and Rain - This song is one that has appeared in my live sets on and off for many years and has always been one of my most favourite James Taylor songs. When I was lucky enough to perform on the same bill as him last Summer in London I even told him that fact when I met him. Even though I wasn’t very articulate at getting those words out since I was so star struck, he was very charming about it!
Love Hurts - A few years ago, my friend and producer of my first album, Shawn Mullins and I performed this song as a duet live during the Cayamo Music Festival. I was so thrilled to be able to finally record a version with him which we did a few weeks ago in Georgia. It was in the same studio where I recorded my first album with him almost 10 years ago. It was quite a trip down memory lane! As someone who has made such an impact on my musical career, it is so special for me to have this duet with him on the new record.
Raining in my heart - I’ve been a Buddy Holly fan for many years and have wanted to cover one of his songs for a long time. I was torn between this song and “True Love Ways” which I love so much I actually walked down the aisle to it on my wedding day! But this song is so beautiful and I hope to be able to do a stripped back arrangement of it using my voice and Vanessa Olivarez’s harmonies to really make the song my own whilst keeping its simple magic.
I’ll have some more news again for you soon. For now I’m back to driving across the country from LA to start my tour which begins on Thursday in Florida, going all the way up to Maine and across to Nashville and Chicago with many places in between.
